  • Killing The Grizzly #4: The Digital Comics Business Model

The Digital Comics Business Model – Getting Started I struggled with whether I should actually call this article “The Digital Comics Business Model”, because, ultimately, EVERY single Killing the Grizzly article will be precisely this, and what’s the point of having to sub-subtitle every article because I stupidly choose too overly-generic a main subtitle (KILLING THE [...]

  • The Septagon Briefing #7: Writing

Septagon asked me if I might consider writing something about actually writing a comic, especially for those who are new at writing comic scripts. PART 1 – EVERYONE PASSES “GO”: THE BREAKING OF A MONOPOLY “THE HIBERNATION PERIOD IS OVER, IT’S TIME TO MAKE SOME SOUP. The bear has awakened, and it needs to be killed. Not later, now. Are Motion Comics on the Rise?

Comic books have seriously started to branch off into several new and exciting directions. The introduction of various new devices to read comic books and interact with them has truly grown the business of comics all together. There are many different forms of comic books that we read everyday these include: physical and digital copies, E-Books, flash Based, web and mobile comics.

One of the questions that people often ask is: “What is the next phase of comic books, and will it be a significant one?” In recent years, more and more publishers began using the comic book trailer to market their product, with this a new medium was formed and motion comics began. Motion comics first appearance was from a book from Ashley Wood, the Metal Gear comic series found below:

Aaron Albert of About.com has written an article and discusses the invasion of Motion Comics on the rise. Here is an excerpt:

“One of the things to come out of this electric age of easy to access software programs is motion comics. Some people are making their own, using programs like Flash to animate their webcomics. Others have used this technology to create adaptations of comics currently out there, such as the motion comics adaptation of the Watchmen comics. I’ve seen a couple recently that caught my eye. One was a indie made endeavor and the other is from a group with large pockets behind it.”

  1. [...] More writers and artists will experiment with motion comics.: Major, independent and self-publishers alike have been exploring the outer fringes of the motion comics medium to varying degrees of success over the past couple of years. The fact that it remains in a largely nascent stage provides an excellent challenge to creative individuals, begging them to take it as far as it can possibly go. Domenic Defina at Septagon Studios praises Amo Tarzi’s Superare as a particularly striking example of what sort of quality creations the motion comics medium inspires. Anyone can watch it on Vimeo, yet the layout particularly pops on gadgets such as the iPad. It stands to reason that many innovators will turn their attention towards customizing their works to suit the features of new technologies rather than going retro. [...]
